Communication Committee

overview

The Communications Committee is responsible for the delivery of clear, concise, informative messaging to the Brumby community and parent body. This committee is vital to the PTA’s development of a clear and effective means of communicating with all members through PTA MemberHub; writing newsletters; posting on Facebook and Instagram; and updating the PTA website regularly. This committee also keeps an open line of communication available for committee chairs and board members to send information that needs to be communicated to the general body of membership. The committee also assists all other PTA committees with promotional materials.

Diversity & Inclusion Committee

overview

Recognizing diversity within organizations means valuing differences and similarities in people through actions and accountability. For Georgia PTA, these differences and similarities include age, ethnicity, language and culture, economic status, educational background, gender, geographic location, marital status, mental ability, national origin, organizational position and tenure, parental status, physical ability, political philosophy, race, religion, sexual orientation, and work experience.

Diversity Mission Statement: To create a high-performing, productive association through an inclusive community environment in which everyone is valued for his/her unique skills, talents and contributions in order to capitalize on the innovation inherent in diverse populations. Diversity affects our mission-driven programs and services, our public image, interpersonal, personal, and organizational activities. The beauty of this program is its infinite flexibility; allowing you to find the best way to get your kids to engage with kids with whom they’re unfamiliar.

Family Engagement Committee

overview

Research shows that parent engagement makes a difference in student achievement—no matter the age of the child. Studies have shown a significant correlation between family involvement in schools and student success. In fact, when parents are engaged in schools, students are more likely to:

  • Earn higher grades and pass their classes
  • Achieve higher test scores
  • Attend school regularly and enroll in higher-level classes
  • Develop stronger social skills

In recognition of the importance of family engagement, in 2012, the National PTA’s National Standards for Family-School Partnerships developed the following set of standards as a road map to help schools successfully engage families in their school communities.

  • Welcoming all families
  • Communicating effectively
  • Supporting student success
  • Speaking up for every child
  • Sharing power
  • Collaborating with community
  • Graduate from high school
  • Go on to post-secondary education
  • Secure productive work and rewarding careers

Health & Wellness Committee

overview

The Health & Wellness Committee has a focus on fostering a culture of health throughout the school using a variety of methods, the most important being parent engagement. As we all know, health and wellness encompasses food, nutrition, and exercise, but what we often miss is that it also includes our environment. Surrounding ourselves with healthy choices extends to the people in our lives, the thoughts we have and the decisions we make. Our conversations with, about, and around our children play a role in their health and well-being. This committee is expected to come up with thoughts, ideas, campaigns and/or programs that are related to helping Brumby students live healthy lives.
